Hanover High School, Class of 1998
If you don't know Steve's story already, it is one of inspiration, resilience and sheer determination. Steve was the most revered player ever to wear th Hanover High School Hockey jersey. Steve was first diagnosed with Leukemia during during his sophomore year of high school at age 16.
Immediately upon diagnosis, Steve vowed to do one thing and one thing only...return to the ice. Steve's dream came true as he battled his way into remission and played his entire junior season for Hanover High School, winning the school's first state championship in the process. Click here to read a wonderful poem by Steve's grandmother about his love of hockey.
During Steve's senior campaign, he was readmitted to the hospital where it was discovered he had fallen out of remission. Although he fought valiantly until the very end, all the while never once uttering a single complaint, Steve succumed to his illness on August 1, 1998.
Steve will forever be remembered for his easy-going personality, his love for his family, his dogs, his friends and, of course, hockey.
Ten years after his passing, we ask you to celebrate Steve's life and legacy by supporting a scholarship fund in Steve's name.
